Bomb Book Terrors – What’s the Motif?

On Wednesday, 16th March 2011, Indonesia suffered from terrorism acts again. In Jakarta, bomb books were delivered to three places and had caused horrible losses to quite a lot of people. These bombs are called the bomb books because they are inserted into a thick book. This seems to be a new method of terrorism acts in Indonesia.
One of the books to which one of the bomb was inserted was entitled “They’ve Got to Be Killed Due to Their Sins to Islam”. This bomb was delivered to Utan Kayu and was suspected to target Ulil Abshar Abdalla, a chief of a liberal Islamic group. Fortunately, Ulil was not on the scene when the bomb exploded and hurt several people. According to Ulil, this was a terrorism act with politics as the motif. One of the people hurt by the bomb was a Police Commissioner Dido Rahmawan who attempted to deactivate the bomb with someone helping him by pouring water right on top of the bomb book.
However, unfortunately for the police commissioner, he didn’t make it. The bomb exploded right before him and cost him his left wrist. Due to the explosion, the doctors had no choice but to amputate his left hands up to the wrist but Dido survived. He is now in a stable condition, according to the doctors. People are questioning why the police commissioner did not wait for the anti bomb special force to arrive at the crime scene. Police even said that what Dido did in his attempt of deactivating the bomb book was mostly wrong. In other words, he used a wrong approach.
On other occasion, a bomb book was also delivered to a news office, 68H. The bomb was the same but the book was a different one. That’s not all yet. A bomb book had also been delivered to the Indonesian National Narcotics Division on the very same day. However, motifs of both these two terrorism acts remain unknown for the time being. As of now, police suspect that these terrorism acts were performed by the veteran terrorists in Indonesia.
