HP TouchSmart 600 Review – Everything for You?
Text by Richie Setiawan
It has almost been thirty years since HP – which stands for Hewlett-Packard – first jumped into the business and made innovations of touch screen technology. There have been various HP tablet PCs, HP PDAs – for those who may not know yet, PDA stands for Personal Digital Assistant – and loads of touch screen devices manufactured by HP. Today, the company is innovating even more by introducing their latest touch screen digital device which they prefer to call HP TouchSmart 600.
The HP TouchSmart 600 is a touch screen desktop personal computer that integrates everything into one device. It has loads of great features to offer customers worldwide. To start it off, this particular desktop PC makes great use of Microsoft Windows 7 touch capability. Yet, to optimize the touch screen technology even further, HP has installed a pretty cool interface onto this all-in-one PC.
With that being said, this HP TouchSmart 600 enables its user to enjoy listening to the music – either by means of Windows Media Player or Pandora, watching the shows from Netflix and doing various other stuffs very easily. This is because the interface is all-in-one as well just like the PC itself. However, a cool PC and a cool interface alone will not do for what PC users may expect from such a brand as HP.
Therefore, HP has built everything into a wide screen display measuring 23 inches at its diagonal. Wow, that is WIDE! Better yet, this is an LCD – which stands for Liquid Crystal Display – that features full HD – which stands for High Definition – technology at the resolution of 1080 pixels. Also, to make things even better, HP has built this display with their amazing Brightview technology.
Also, HP understands that there might also be serious gamers who might want to have a taste of their HP TouchSmart 600. Thus, HP has powered the display with an nVidia GeForce GT230M graphics processor unit. This particular graphics processor unit comes with a dedicated memory module of 1GB. Yet, if that is not enough, user can use a total of 2.8GB video memory as it is that much that can be allocated by Windows 7. And, to further enhance user’s visual experience, this graphics processor unit supports Microsoft DirectX 10 technology and Blu-Ray.
With such amazing display and graphics processing unit, it is a pity if HP TouchSmart 600 user cannot commence video chat with their closest friends or relatives. This is one reason a tilting webcam is available.
Now, you might be asking what other components make up this HP TouchSmart 600 apart from those components intended for visual capability alone. Well, there is an Intel Core2 Duo P7450 processor that runs at the clock speed of 2.13GHz. Then, HP TouchSmart 600 user can also expect 3MB L2 cache, 1066MHz FSB – which stands for Front Side Bus, in case you don’t know – and 4GB of system memory. With all these stuffs, multitasking should be a piece of cake. In fact, one of the purposes served by this all-in-one PC is reliable multitasking.
However, a PC without an internet connection is not quite a PC today. Yes, internet is something PC manufacturers cannot compromise. Thanks to HP’s understanding of this particular aspect, they have prepared this TouchSmart 600 with an integrated Wireless LAN – commonly known as Wi-Fi which stands for Wireless Fidelity – 802.11 b/g/n connectivity module. Yet, if you are a user who prefers ADSL modem connection, there is an Ethernet port available for your comfort.
Still in terms of connectivity, HP has provided Bluetooth communication module as well. This will allow the user of this particular PC to send or receive whatever files they want to transfer between their HP TouchSmart 600 and other digital devices that support Bluetooth connection.
There is, however, one common thing that takes place while PC users are either connecting to the internet or other digital devices. If they are not uploading files, they are likely to download files. Unfortunately, PC users will not feel satisfied unless they are able to download everything they want to download and store them on their PC for later use. For this particular purpose, HP has prepared the TouchSmart 600 with a 750GB SATA hard disk drive. With such a huge capacity HDD, the user will be able to store everything they want on their HP TouchSmart 600.
However, if the user does not feel that the storage capacity offered is enough, they can burn their files or data to a DVD disc thanks to the DVD-RW drive available. Better yet, this drive is in fact a Blu-Ray drive as well thus allowing the user to watch Blu-Ray movies on their PC.
Speaking of watching Blu-Ray movies, HP has prepared a remote control as well so that the user will not have to stick close to their PC. Better yet, the remote control is designed exclusively for the HP TouchSmart 600. This remote control even supports Media Center functionalities for the sake of the user’s pleasure.
Unfortunately, it seems that a remote control does not have much to do unless the user can watch TV shows on their HP TouchSmart 600. But don’t worry, the HP TouchSmart 600 features a TV tuner indeed, built-in, so that the user can watch, pause, rewind or record live TV shows right from their PC. And, just like your home TV unit that allows user to adjust the color/lighting, this HP TouchSmart 600 allows its user to do the same. With the colored HP ambient lights, a user will be able to set his or her mood or have a visual of their keyboard even in the dark.
Yet, there is another thing that is admirable from the HP TouchSmart 600. It is the sleek physical design of the computer. Designed in piano black bezel that rests on not less than 3 legs, it gives the sensation of a photo frame with a kickstand at the back of it. And, to avoid cable hanging here and there, there is only one power cable trailing out behind a TouchSmart 600 unit.
One last thing that is pretty cool about this particular PC is that those PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 gamers will be able to display their favorite games on the HP TouchSmart 600. This is possible thanks to the ports available on the PC.
So, by now, what do you think about HP TouchSmart 600?
