Heavy Criticisms for the Italian Government Cars
Text by Richie Setiawan
The Italians criticize their government executives for using the Maserati Quattroporte as their transport.
From 2009 to 2010, 19 units of the armored Maserati Quattroporte were bought by the Italian Ministry of Defense to replace the previously used Audi A6 and Lancia Thesis.
The Italians then respond to this decision by bombarding their government and its executives with heavy criticisms on such a decision. Emanuele Fiano, a member of the political party Democratico Partito, for example, wants the government to tell them the reason to buy these 19 units of luxury sedans during the last 3 years in which the country has been suffering from severe economy crisis and that, ironically, their Ministry of Defense’s budget has been decreasing rapidly.
The Italian Minister of Defense, Ignazio La Russa, on the other hand, tried to explain that the luxury sedans were not meant for the ministers, their secretaries, executive chiefs in the government or even for his staffs. He also added that the Italian people should have complained long ago when they were still using the luxury sedans from Audi and Lancia. He claimed that the Maserati sedans were more affordable as they were made in Italia itself.
But is that true? Well, fact is, a Maserati sedan is sold at about $167.5, far above an Audi A8, let alone an A6.
