Text by Richie Setiawan

The gaming industry has grown so big these days that there are currently billions of dollars invested and flowing around this industry. Being a big industry as it is, there have been quite a large number of manufacturers that try to get a portion of the cake by developing devices to support games and give users a better gaming experience than they have ever felt before. For examples, there are steering wheels and racing seats designed for racing simulation games, guns for shooting games, joysticks for flight simulation games and so on. However, there have always been some rooms for improvements even until today. Yet, Icuiti and Vuzix have narrowed down these improvement rooms by introducing the iWear VR920, the dream virtual reality glasses for the gamers out there.

These iWear VR920 virtual reality glasses give gamers the freedom to move around in the world of the games they play. Thanks to the integrated 3 DOF head tracking device, the camera will pan to the direction where the gamers turn their head to. Of course, there are bunches of other cool and exciting features gamers can get with these glasses.

To start it off, the iWear VR920 projects dual LCD displays with a standard resolution of 640x480 pixels. This is equivalent to viewing a 62-inch display at a distance of 9 feet away. The gamers’ eyes will also get spoilt by the 24-bit true color depth and 60Hz progressive scan update rates.

Well, the resolution may sound too small. However, the iWear VR920 is also capable of supporting a VGA resolution of up to 1024x768 pixels. In addition to that, the glasses are quite light as well. Icuiti and Vuzix know for sure that wearing a heavy device on their head is a surefire way to reduce the hours of fun of gaming and they make the glasses weigh not more than 3.2 ounces.

The iWear VR920 can be used in different kinds of games, be it an MMORPG, MMORTS or any other kinds of games, some of which may also include team chatting as an essential feature. Therefore, the glasses have already been equipped with built-in noise-canceling microphone and also a full duplex audio connected to a USB port that is also used for tracking and power.

The iWear VR920 is also 3D compliant and it comes with native support for NVIDIA stereo drivers. Also, for gamers that prefer an analog monitor, they can use the analog input for VGA monitor provided by these virtual reality glasses.

Another good thing about the virtual reality glasses is that once gamers purchase the iWear VR920, they will not have to worry about what games they can play using these particular devices as they are compatible to most games currently in existence. Also, gamers can use these glasses no matter if it is Windows 7, Vista or even XP that is installed on their system. However, the compatibility degree may vary in accordance with the corresponding game title.

Considering all that these glasses can have, a price tag below $500 is not expensive for the iWear VR920.
