Need For Speed Hot Pursuit – Can You Stop the Notorious Racing Action?
Text by Richie Setiawan

For those fans of the Need For Speed titles, there might have always been a particular question in their mind, “is there even any chance of becoming the chaser – the cops – instead of the ones being chased all the way in the game?”

Well, if they once played Need For Speed Hot Pursuit – the old prequel, it was indeed possible. Unfortunately, though, gamers can only play as the cop in split screen mode. Yet, this new sequel – which is dubbed Need For Speed Hot Pursuit as well – will give gamers the ability to play a cop all the way in the game. For once, gamers can go on the right side of the law along their career in a Need For Speed title. However, for those who persist to break the rules of the roads, they can still play a racer. So, it’s up to gamers whether they choose to help Seacrest County Police Department to bust speeders and give them necessary lessons or to push their supercars to the limit on Seacrest County wide open roads which are just perfect for speeding.

Some fans of the Need For Speed titles might wonder if this game is in fact just a remake of the original Need For Speed Hot Pursuit title. Well, taking into account what we have mentioned above, one thing is for sure, this is not a remake or anything like it. This is a totally new Need For Speed Hot Pursuit title.

One good thing about being a cop in this new title is that gamers will have a fleet of supercars to help them accomplish their cop missions. So, it’s not like previous Need For Speed titles in which cops’ cars’ specifications did not even come close to what racers had. Hopefully, with these supercars, Seacrest County Police Department fellow officers will be something that racers are afraid of for they won’t be able to evade as easily as before.

Better yet, having a fleet of cops’ supercars does not mean that there will be no backups or choppers anymore. In fact, when gamers play as a cop, they will be able to call backups or choppers when they feel necessary. This, of course, is a promising in-game feature Electronic Arts and Criterion can offer. With all that being said, there should only be one thing left on the minds of gamers who choose to be on the right side of the law, to climb up the SCPD career ladder. Thanks to Criterion, this is not likely to be so hard to achieve. Use every weapon available and bust as many speeders as you can and you don’t even need to ask for permission. How cool is that?

Now, let’s switch to the racer’s side. When you have enough money to buy a supercar, could you possibly want to drive it just to go to a regular Sunday drive or something like it? Probably NOT! Fortunately, you can push your pricey supercar to the limit when you drive along Seacrest County wide open roads. From miles to miles, what you will see are simply roads and roads, widely stretched ahead of you. This time, EA promises there will be no annoying buildings or ugly traffic that can get in your way. But traffic, however, might be cool as it might make the game more challenging, whether to evade police chases or to bust the racers.

But you’ll need to be careful, though, as the Seacrest County Police Department (SCPD) are always on the hideouts waiting to bust unsuspecting speeders – watch out, you could be one of those unlucky fellow speeders to get busted. This time, the SCPD will give out all they have which include supercars, roadblocks, spike strips, EMP to temporarily take control of your vehicle’s mind and – last but not least – backups and choppers. So, you’d better be careful otherwise you could end up in SCPD custody thinking over what you have done on the roads just minutes before.

Another promising game experience in this Need For Speed Hot Pursuit title is that gamers can compete online and can still choose to be the cops or the racers. Gamers can compete up to 8 players online. For a change, gamers can play as 7 cops against 1 racer and see how cool things could end up.

However, the Need For Speed Hot Pursuit title will not be officially launched until November 16, 2010. But there is no need to worry. Gamers who are interested in this title can now start pre-ordering the title from such sites as Best Buy, Amazon, Game Stop or the EA Store among other sites. The cool thing is if you pre-order now, you might get the limited editions of the game. These limited editions – as they are called – are only available for a limited time. So, the faster you pre-order the game, the better chance you would have of getting the limited edition.

One more thing, for your information, there are some rumors currently that there might not be manual transmission available in the game. However, this is still on debates over the World Wide Web. So, it’s better off not paying too much attention to what is not certain just yet just to miss all the fun this Need For Speed Hot Pursuit title can possibly offer.

Now that you know all the fun the title can offer you, it is time to run a checklist to make sure your PC has what it takes to run this game. But don’t worry since the specs will not be too high, at least that’s what some people say. Here come the specs (as released by EA):
