Ridge Racer Unbounded Heading to Your Door
Text by Richie Setiawan
On the hands of Bugbear Entertainment, Namco’s Ridge Racer title turns destructive.
Scheduled for release on March 6, 2012, in North America, the title is now very close to completion. However, though, fans of the Ridge Racer franchise will see some changes in the title.
Thanks to developer Bugbear Entertainment, Namco’s Ridge Racer Unbounded turns out destructive. Well, considering some games previously developed by Bugbear, this may not be too surprising after all. The FlatOut franchise, for example, is one of the games developed by this developer. For your information, FlatOut was a demolition derby racer Bugbear developed for Empire Interactive. In the game, everything seemed to be destructive, including even the mini games. In the mini games, players were required to crash such that their in-game driver got thrown out of the front windshield into target objects, an example of which is the giant bowling pins. In addition to FlatOut, the Sega Rally Revo developed for the PSP in 2007 was also the work of Bugbear Entertainment.
Ridge Racer Unbounded will welcome players with the abilities to design city layouts and also to drive through storefronts or other shortcuts. This latest successor to the Ridge Racer franchise will be the first, hopefully of many, to hit video game consoles once again ever since Ridge Racer 7 in 2006 developed for the PS3 platform. Yet, for the first time ever, the title is also coming to PC.
However, it seems that the Ridge Racer franchise hasn’t been entirely dormant after all. In 2009, iPhone users were lucky enough to see Ridge Racer Accelerated while last March, Nintendo 3DS users witnessed Ridge Racer 3DS coming to their console.
