RMS President Insists on Taking the President of Indonesia into Custody
Text by Richie Setiawan
The President of Indonesia, Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), had to postpone a planned diplomatic visit to the Netherlands even though the president has been getting ready to leave for the destination country and a number of staffs had even already boarded the plane.
This incident is due to a trial being held in Netherlands in which – according to NOS, a Netherlands website – the RMS president – Mr. John Wattilete, who is in exile – demanded that the President of Indonesia be taken into custody on his visit which was originally planned to take place on October 6, 2010.
The RMS president insisted on that SBY had violated the human rights of the RMS people. The RMS president also demanded that the Indonesian government put to an end what he called as captivating and torturing of the RMS followers that reside in Indonesia. Wattilete also questioned where Chris Soumokil – one of former RMS leaders executed in the year 1966 by the Indonesian government – had been buried.
Yet – as published in De Telegraaf website on October 4, 2010 – RMS followers are planning a massive demonstration and it is predicted to be followed by a thousand people. The RMS president explained that there were 93 people who had been taken into custody for following RMS. He also added that the International Amnesty and Human Right Watch had reported this case.
The Indonesian president, on the other hand, said that this was a matter of pride and honor of a nation. He also added that he knew it was a common trial yet it had something to do with pride. Until this article is written, the diplomatic visit is being cancelled for an undetermined period of time.
However, according to most law experts in the Netherlands, the Netherlands government is least likely to take SBY into custody. The reason is that one government has no rights to capture the leader of another government on a diplomatic visit.
