Toyota FT-HS Concept
Text by Richie Setiawan

Most of the time, when it comes to concept cars, we are faced with some weird looking car styles. As a matter of fact, some of us probably would rather keep away from concept cars than getting caught driving in a car that may seem awkward. Fortunately, there are quite a few car manufacturers out there that know just what style to give to their concept cars so that the cars will look better while still maintaining the core concept elements.

Toyota, for one, has successfully managed to produce a very nice looking concept car that they name the FT-HS. This particular concept car comes featuring a very potent hybrid powertrain while keeping in mind the crucial fundamentals that a sports car should have. Offered for sale with a medium price tag, the FT-HS combines emotion and ecology pretty well and this makes it the sports car people should be looking for by the 21st century.

The front and the rear parts of the car’s body are sculpted. This is meant to get rid of the mass that may otherwise surround the main functional elements. In addition to that, the roof of the car is scooped out in such a distinctive way that it decreases possible aerodynamic drag. At the same time, the roof also gives more rooms for our head at certain key areas.

In the interior, we will be spoilt by delta-wing driver pod as well as a cross-car structure for the instrument panel for the driver’s cockpit. The instrument panel is built integrated surrounding the driver and is meant to give out an impression of enclosed pod atmosphere. There are also enough armrests for the passengers inside that blend seamlessly into the doors while at the same time surround the interior of the Toyota FT-HS.

The seating in the Toyota FT-HS is built with lightweight function and style in mind. This concept car from Toyota is capable of accommodating up to 4 people. Yet, it can also become a 2-seater convertible when we retract the roof.

The power that a car has under its hood has always been something important and so is the case with any concept cars. The FT-HS features a 3.5L V6 engine that – combined with Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology from Toyota – is capable of spoiling the driver by bursting out 400 HP. With this power, the concept car is capable of going from a complete standstill to 60 MPH in simply 4 seconds or less.
