Nokia Prepping Android 5 Smartphone?
If you happen to be quite a fan of the smartphone models from Nokia, you may well be in for a treat. The company has been rumored to be prepping a new smartphone that will run Google’s Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS. Just as a kind reminder, the Finnish company recently launched its very first tablet device, the Nokia N1, which also runs the Lollipop OS.
Words on the Finland-based tech vendor prepping a new smartphone with Google’s Android Lollipop OS came out after benchmarking details of the phone were leaked on the World Wide Web. Coming from Geekbench, we can clearly see in the details, as visible on the adjacent image, that the upcoming smartphone from the company will bear the ‘1100’ moniker. In case you have forgotten, the Nokia 1100 was in fact quite a popular model back in the year 2003. Well, it seems like Nokia is reviving a model from some twelve years ago, eh?
Judging by the image of the benchmark, it is safe to say that the device will be coming with the Android 5.0 OS, along with a MediaTek CPU, the MT6582, which is a quad-core CPU running at the clock speed of 1.3 GHz. In addition to that, the phone is also coming with 466MB RAM. For your information, the aforementioned CPU from MediaTek supports the use of an 8MP camera and a 720p display panel.
Interestingly, however, MediaTek also claims that its CPU is also suitable for use on low-end smartphones. With that being said, there is quite a good chance that the Nokia 1100 will be more targeted to those who are not willing to spend too much money to purchase a high-end smartphone model.
Unfortunately, it seems that Nokia won’t be able to release its new smartphone model anytime soon. Thing is, it was recently acquired by Microsoft and based on the agreement between the two companies, Nokia will have to wait at least until the fourth quarter of 2016 before it can launch a new model. As for now, it still belongs to Microsoft and its name is in fact not Nokia but Microsoft Mobile instead.
Well, this must really be upsetting for true fans of the Nokia brand and these fans do still exist out there. As a matter of fact, the Nokia N1 tablet is quite a bestselling device, especially in China.
