Volkswagen Shows Off the Sports Coupe Concept GTE
In case you forget, we reported to you just a few days earlier that Volkswagen, a German-based automaker, was going to bring a new concept car to Geneva this year. Well, now that the 2015 Geneva Motor Show has officially kicked off, the company has fulfilled its promise indeed. It has brought the Sports Coupe Concept GTE to one of the biggest automotive exhibition events in the world.
At a glance, the car has a lot of similarities with the concept teased a few days ago. The car looks fresh with a newly designed front fascia, to begin with. Unlike the norm in the automotive world, this car has its headlamps, VW badge and radiator front grille all merged into one, creating a unique yet still attractive look. In addition to that, the car also comes with a rather long engine hood as well as a roof with a sloping design. Going further to the rear end of the vehicle, we can see dual exhaust pipes and LED taillights available. The rear also benefits from quite a spacious trunk with a cargo capacity reaching 480 liters in total.
Yet, as for the interior, it features an ergonomic yet minimalistic design. Passengers inside the vehicle will also benefit from a panoramic sliding roof. Yet, if those are not enough, the cabin offers plenty of spaces for the heads and legs of the passengers, be it in the front or the rear compartment.
Inside the vehicle, customers are not likely to find too many conventional knobs and buttons. Instead, everything can be accessed via a largely sized built-in touchscreen display. There are also several touch-sensitive buttons available.
For the mobility of the vehicle, there is a plug-in hybrid engine hidden under the hood. This engine comprises a conventional V6 TSI engine and a pair of electric motors. This plug-in hybrid powertrain provides the vehicle with 380 HP of total power output. This makes it possible for the car to reach the speed mark of 100 km/h from an idle state in just 5.2 seconds. Its top speed, meanwhile, is rated at 250 km/h.
Using only electricity, the Volkswagen Sports Coupe Concept GTE can travel as far as 50 km. The car is also quite efficient when it comes to fuel consumption, with a ratio of 2 liters for every 100 kilometers.
